Amanita Design, the developer behind Machinarium and Samorost, have confirmed that its next game Creaks will be released later this month for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The game was shown during the PlayStation Indies stream, and a new trailer has been released. In Creaks players explore a large, towering mansion that has some strange creatures living in it. Some of these are dangerous monsters called creaks that can pose a threat to the player, but if you hit them with some light then they’ll transform into furniture which can be used to solve the puzzles of the game. You can watch the trailer below.
“The ground starts shaking, light bulbs are breaking – and something rather unusual is happening right behind the walls of your very room. Equipped with nothing but wit and courage, you slowly descend into a world inhabited by avian folk and seemingly deadly furniture monsters.”
One of the inspirations behind Creaks’ setting is the condition pareidolia, the psychological phenomenon of “seeing things” such as patterns or faces in surfaces. Scottish composer and multi-instrumentalist Joe Acheson has worked on the soundtrack for Creaks, and the music will pair up with the hand drawn artwork that makes up the Creaks’ artstyle. Amanita design will be announcing the full price and release date soon.
