Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time new Flashback Tapes levels revealed at Gamescom

Another little snippet of info and gameplay from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was revealed at Gamescom. Flashback Tapes are new puzzle rooms that take players back to the early 90s narratively as a prequel to the original game.

The Flashback Tapes take you back to when Crash and Coco were in Neo Cortex’s clutches, being run through puzzle rooms that test their reflexes and puzzling skills. They’re not a part of the main path through the game, but are instead something you’ll have to hunt down and collect in levels… without dying.

Crash 4 is out on 2nd October for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game will ignore all the stories from the PlayStation 2 games, setting itself after the events of Crash Bandicoot: Warped. The year is 1998, and Crash is just happily maxing and relaxing on his island when he stumbles upon one of the Quantum Masks that seems to know Crash’s mask friend Aku-Aku! With the four Quantum Masks returning and a bit Quantum Rift appearing, Crash and chums dive in to explore different times and dimensions to stop Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy and Uka Uka, who’ve returned from exile.

There was also confirmation that there will be no microtransactions for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, though there will be a lot of costumes. These costumes will be purely cosmetic and will not have any impact on gameplay. All of the costumes will be unlockable through playing Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time likely through completing challenges and finding secret areas across the game’s levels.

It’s sure to be a bit of a fan please, and Toys For Bob might still have a few surprises up their sleeves for between now and October.
