Square Enix have announced that a free demo for their fantasy adventure game, Balan Wonderworld, will be released next week on 28th January – specifically at midnight for console and at 5PM for PC via Steam.
The demo will feature around two hours of Balan Wonderworld gameplay, letting you soak in a fair chunk of this bright and colourful adventure. You can even do this with a friend, as the demo will feature both single player and local co-op play on each platform.
Balan Wonderworld is coming out on 23rd March 2021 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One (with Smart Delivery), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
Coming from the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog and Nights into Dreams, you can get a feeling for where its visual style has come from. The story sees the two protagonists Leo Craig and Emma Cole entering a mysterious theatre and meeting Balan, who draws them both into the magical Wonderworld.
The adventure then sees them drawn through the land of Wonderworld, guided by Balan along the way. You’ll jump, climb, fly, smash and everything you’ll expect from an action platformer, discovering 80 unique costumes that give you new special powers. These include the Rail Runner outfit, which lets you conjure up train tracks to quickly cross long distances and get around obstacles.
Co-op play will let both Leo and Emma really adventure together – simply connect a second controller and push a button to enter co-op mode – combining abilities and costumes in order to explore different paths through the world. You’ll also be able to collect Balan Statues and the hidden Balan’s Bout mini-games.
The demo will jump back and forth through the game, giving you levels from three of the game’s twelve worlds. These include Act 1, Act 2 and a boss from World 1 – The Man Who Rages Against the Storm, Act 1 from World 4 – The Boy Who Would be One with the Wind and Act 1 from World 6 – The Girl and the Kitten.
World 1 takes players to a farm made of rolling hills and giant crops, created from the memories inside Jose Gallard’s heart, a farmer whose beautiful cornfield is struck by a storm. World 4 is then taken from Chan Haoyu and his love for the open sky, mixing bicycle parts and floating islands to create it, and World 6 is of Cass Milligan’s fond memories of meeting a cute kitten, candy and books. Joining them all together is the Isle of Times, a central hub from which Leo and Emma can launch into their adventure, as well as meet creatures known as Tims.
