Crash Bandicoot 4 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S & Switch in March

Activision have announced that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is heading to a whole host of new platforms over the next couple of months. Having initially spun its way onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2020, Crash 4 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on 12th March, 2021, with a PC release via Battle.net also planned to arrive later this year. As is fairly commonplace across the industry, those who have already bought the game on PS4 or Xbox One will be entitled to receive an upgrade to the new generation within the same console family at no extra cost.

Pre-orders are now live on Nintendo Switch and PC, both set at $39.99 (which is significantly less than the $59.99 SRP of the PS4 and Xbox One version), with anyone that purchases the game digitally receiving the Totally Tubular Skins upon completion of the game’s second level.

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, you can expect the usual set of upgrades through the game, with a native 4K resolution at 60fps, faster loading times, and so on. Xbox Series S will have an upscaled resolution to 4K.

The game will take advantage of Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system to seamlessly bridge the generational divide with your save data, and while trickier, you can still transfer your save from PS4 to PS5.

Here’s the step by step process:

  1. Launch Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on your PlayStation 4.
  2. Navigate to the Select a Save Slot screen.
  3. Select the data slot you wish to transfer.
  4. Select Upload to Cloud.
  5. Confirm your selection, then select Upload to Cloud again.
  6. Once the upload is complete, select Continue to return to the game.
  7. Launch Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on your PlayStation 5
  8. Navigate to the Select a Save Slot screen.
  9. Select an open data slot, then select Download Cloud Save.
  10. Confirm your selection, then select Download Cloud Save again.
  11. When prompted, enter your initials and select Next.
  12. When prompted, choose Modern or Retro playstyle.
  13. Once the download is complete, select Continue to return to the game.

What a faff!

For Crash Bandicoot fans, though, it’s sure to be worth it. In our Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time review, Steve wrote:

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time really is the definitive Crash game. Toys For Bob have taken all the series’ trademarks, refined them into a challenging and polished experience and given us tons of levels to play and secrets to hunt for. There’s new characters to play as and masks that shake up the gameplay when they appear, but Crash 4 is the same old Bandicoot who’s learnt a few new tricks.
