The new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal headphones for Xbox cost as much as an Xbox Series X

For the discerning gamer, a good headset is an essential purchase, and there’s few brands with more prestige that Bang & Olufsen. The high-end Danish audio experts have turned their gaze to the gaming market, releasing the Beoplay Portal Headphones for Xbox.

Considering the prestige brand, it probably shouldn’t surprise you that these cost as much as a new Xbox Series X, coming in at $499 USD or £449 GBP.

Available in three colours – Black Anthracite, Grey Mist, and Navy Brass – The Beoplay Portal is intended to bridge the gap between gaming and everyday use. They are part of the Designed for Xbox program and come with the necessary circuitry to connect directly to an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One with 2.4Ghz Xbox Wireless, but the headset also has Bluetooth 5.1 and aptX Adaptive support to also connect to your phone.

You can customise game/chat balance, mute, and volume directly on the headset itself or from the Bang & Olufsen audio app, while the headset features active noise cancellation. There’s also a “virtual boom arm” created using an array of beam-forming microphones.

Battery life depends on how you’re using it. There’s 12 hours of battery with Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth and noise cancellation all in combination, or 24 hours with just Bluetooth and ANC. It can recharge in 3 hours.

The headset is the first in the Designed for Xbox Limited Series label, which is intended to signify that this is a truly premium product.

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal is available or order now, with the Black Anthracite version ready to ship today in the US and 29th April in the UK, while the Grey Mist and Navy Brass version ship in May.
