Publisher Neon Doctrine and developer Obscure Tales have confirmed a release date for the survival horror game Lamentum, and it will be released on August 31st. The confirmed platforms are PC via Steam, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. The game will be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility. A demo for Lamentum is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, so you can get a taste of the horror.
Lamentum’s synopsis reads as follows:
It is the 19th century in New England. Victor Hartwell brings his ailing wife Alissa to the mysterious Grau Hill Manor after hearing that its master, Lord Steinrot, is well-versed in forbidden knowledge that could save her. Soon however, the house that once was Victor’s greatest hope becomes Hell on Earth. Alissa goes missing, blood and flesh oozes from the walls, once smiling portraits are twisted into faces of agony, and creatures sprung from nightmares lurk behind every door. However, Victor has loved Alissa for too long to let fear stop him, and he will do whatever it takes to rescue his beloved, even if it means staring down the faces of madness. Â
Players will have access to melee and ranged weapons based on the 19th-century arms, a whole host of enemies to take down, with bosses challenging the player in every zone, and a number of artifacts to discover. Lamentum will feature a number of pathways to explore which in turn lead to different endings. Inventory management will be key to survival as all resources are hard to find, and the space to store them will not be large so choices will have to be made on what to keep. Aside from the creatures there will also be a number of puzzles to contend with to get through the mansion.
