Mortal Shell: The Virtuous Cycle expansion brings a roguelike element this August

Cold Symmetry has announced that Mortal Shell’s The Virtuous Cycle expansion will be launching on August 18th for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Virtuous Cycle will cost $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.99. The new expansion will add a roguelike element to Mortal Shell where enemies will shuffle around on each death so you will never know what will be coming ahead. There will be over 100 new abilities to learn that will help in the fight for survival, and there is a new Shell available as well. The Shell will be of the Hadern who is playable in both the main campaign and The Virtuous Cycle.

Francesco Zacchini, Technical Designer at developer Cold Symmetry, said: “Designing and developing The Virtuous Cycle DLC has been a blast. We have crammed in over 100 new abilities alongside new lore, the transforming Axatana weapon, and Hadern as a playable shell. I can’t wait to see all the ways players are going to break the roguelike mode that we created. I think they’re going to have a lot of fun with that.”

We had a great time with the original release of the game, playing it on PC. In our Mortal Shell review, Jason said:

Mortal Shell is just an incredibly satisfying experience. It’ll punish you constantly, but if you can master the mechanics it lays out in front of you then you’ll have an incredible time of things. The lore is a little more obvious that in other soulslikes, and the story it tells and the world it puts you in are both rather enthralling. This is definitely a game that fans of dying a lot will enjoy, but it’s probably not for everyone.
