Crusader Kings 3 is coming to Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 “soon”

An “adaptation” of Crusader Kings 3 has been announced for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, as Paradox Interactive bring one of their most popular and iconic franchises to consoles for the first time. The game will come out “soon”, and will launch straight into Xbox Game Pass for Xbox owners.

The fundamental grand strategy experience of CK3 is certainly best suited to playing with keyboard and mouse on PC, but it’s not an insurmountable task to adapt such games for console.  Paradox has previously released console versions of city builder Cities: Skylines as well as their interstellar grand strategy game Stellaris.

For the console release, they say that “The UI has been customized to work with wireless controllers, including the addition of radial menus, ensuring that none of the depth and detail of the Crusader Kings III experience has been lost in translation.”

CK3’s UI needs a full redesign for playing on console…

Either way, the game is excellent. We wrote in our Crusader Kings 3 review:

“The best way to think of Crusader Kings 3 as a sequel is in terms of its own dynastic gameplay. Sure, Paradox have started from scratch with a new game, but it’s still full of scheming, warring amidst an impressive breadth of cultures and religions. Crusader Kings 3 is an heir that has been born from Crusader Kings 2 and its many expansions, including and improving on so much of what made that game great, but it can still grow and improve in its own right.”

Back in May, Paradox Interactive announced the first major expansion for Crusader Kings 3 on PC, called Royal Court. The key addition is a visual representation of your royal court for kings and emperors, letting you display your accumulated relics and trinkets to show off how prestigious your dynasty has become. From here you’ll be able to interact with vassals and courtiers as they come to petition you for a royal judgment. There will be additional roles in your court to award to people, from food tasters through to a court tutor, who can help you learn foreign languages. You might also have more Inspired People appear, who could create great works or craft impressive weapons and jewellery for you.
