The first paid DLC for The Ascent is out now alongside Patch #5

The Ascent Review Header

The first DLC for cyberpunk-adjacent action RPG The Ascent is out now, adding a collection of CyberSec weapons and gear into the game’s gorgeously explosive combat. Of course, there’s also a big update to go alongside it in the form of Patch #5 – Lou Bega’s favourite.

The CyberSec DLC is available now for the game across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The DLC bundle features two new weapons, a new tactical, four new pieces of armour and four new animated weapon skins. It’s priced at £3.99 / $4.99 / #4.99, which does make it more than twice as expensive as Oblivion horse armour, but much, much cheaper than an basic shader for a single armour core in Halo Infinite. How far we’ve come in the last 15 years, eh?

Those new gear items are:

  • Newt MGL – Grenade Launcher
  • Recoil – Ballistic burst rifle
  • GR00P Cluster Grenade – Lethal Grenade with explosive cluster damage
  • Boomblock Scalp – Medium head protection
  • Boomblock H-HD – Advanced Head Protection
  • Boomblock Vest – Advanced torso protection
  • Boomblock Shin Protector – Medium leg protection
  • Animated Weapon Skins: Blue Digital, Hypno 01, Hypno 02 and Red Digital

The Ascent Patch #5 brings with it a free feature for all players: Transmogrification. This allows you to fix your appearance to match the visual style of armour in your inventory by visiting a Stylist and paying a fee. Once a visual style has been set, you can equip any armour you like and keep the same look. It’s a love it or hate it kind of feature in RPGs, but feels like a great addition here.

Looking to the future, Tor Frick, Creative Director at Neon Giant said, “We have some great new content planned over the next few months, which we recently outlined in our post-launch Roadmap. We’ll be introducing features such as NewGame+, new VO lines for side missions, a free Winter Pack in December and a paid update to the Chongqing Pack and a brand new Cyber-Warrior paid pack early next year, so keep an eye out on our community pages for updates. As always we’d like to thank our wonderful community for all their support – we hope everyone enjoys the new content!”

We had a great time with The Ascent for our review, enjoying the frenetic top-down shooter action and the gorgeous visuals. In our The Ascent review, Nick said:

“The Ascent has got all the grimy character that you would want from its sci-fi cyberpunk setting, and there’s a great combat system to go with it. Simply put, The Ascent deserves your attention.”
