Are you wondering how to upgrade Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 for free? Chances are, you’ve been holding onto a copy of the game for a while now (perhaps since launch) waiting for CD Projekt Red to roll out its highly anticipated next-gen update.

Well, that time has finally arrived. Like many cross-generation titles available on PlayStation, Cyberpunk 2077 offers an upgrade path allowing those who own the PS4 version to access the game on PS5 at no additional cost. From Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, to recent hits such as Horizon Forbidden West, it’s a great feature even if Sony’s implementation is far from perfect.

A lot has changed in Night City since Cyberpunk 2077 originally hit PS4 back in late 2020. Patch 1.5 packs in new features, content, and improvements in time for its PS5 launch.

You will get to choose between a performance mode which targets 60fps with a dynamic 4K, or implement ray tracing which, on PS5, is labelled as being for “ray-traced local shadows”, and the new systems get improved crowd reactions. There’s also spatial audio support on PS5, while the DualSense has… uh… haptic feedback for the sex scenes.

For any CDPR fans out there, we’re expecting to see a next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also go live later this year.
