PlayStation State of Play March 2022 – where to watch & predictions

playstation state of play

The PlayStation State of Play broadcast for March 2022 is set to live later today with Sony teasing a string of gaming reveals.

You can catch the event here at 10PM, UK time – that’s 2PM Pacific / 5PM Eastern / 11PM CET for those joining us overseas. If YouTube isn’t your thing, you can also catch the livestream over on Twitch.

During Sony’s last PlayStation State of Play event, it gave racing fans a look beneath the hood of Gran Turismo 7. So, what does it have in store for tonight’s showing? Here’s what Sony had to say:

The show is clocking in around 20 minutes, give or take, with a special focus on highlighting great games coming from some of our beloved Japanese publishers, though we’ll have a few updates from other developers located around the world, too.

Which games and studios could this be referring to? Nothing has leaked just yet (apart from a Strange of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins demo) though the web is already awhirl with conspiracy and rumour.

Of course, one sect of the PlayStation fandom is convinced a Bloodborne remaster is on the horizon. There’s nothing to substantiate this and, with Elden Ring having just launched, FromSoftware is already in the spotlight enough as it is already. Besides, Sony’s wording makes it sound as though they will be focusing on other publishers as opposed to its own first party lineup.

Perhaps the most obvious game to mention is the next Final Fantasy from Square Enix. Final Fantasy XVI was revealed back in September 2020 as a PlayStation exclusive but we only saw a CGI trailer. In December 2020 director Naoki Yoshida said the game had been delayed due to Covid-19 but there would be a reveal in Spring 2022, so this could be it. Square Enix’s other action RPG, Forspoken, would seem like a good fit for the event though it has recently been struck with a major delay. Of course, there’s also rumours that a new Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins demo could drop.

Ghostwire Tokyo is another potential candidate, though it’s worth noting this game recently had its own 20-minute showcase.

Naturally, there will be plenty of Sony diehards holding out for another glimpse at God of War. Will Kratos and Atreus swoop in to steal the show? We’ll find out in a few hours.
