Cinematic samurai game Trek to Yomi set for a May release date

Side-scrolling samurai action game Trek to Yomi will release on 5th May, coming out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Oh, and it’ll be out on Game Pass on day one.

Coming from Leonard Menchiari and Samurai Warrior developer Flying Wild Hog, Trek to Yomi is a tale of vengeance as our protagonist Hiroki carves a bloody path to the murderous Kagerou. The game takes clear inspiration from classic Kurosawa samurai films for its stylish black and white visuals. The above trailer gives us an extended look at the game in action, showcasing its side-scrolling gameplay and combat.

The side-scrolling ode to samurai cinema promises more than nonstop bouts of katana-wielding combat. Trek to Yomi will see Hiroki traverse and explore 3D environments, and hopefully there will be some challenging platforming and puzzle elements in the full game.

There’s clearly an appetite for samurai video games right now, as evidenced by Ghost of Tsushima’s roaring success. Last year, the PlayStation exclusive launched on PS5 with a new Director’s Cut that added the Iki Island DLC.
