If you are hunting for a PlayStation 5 consoles then good news, Currys have console in stock right now. Bad news: You’ll have to fork out at least £300 over the base price of the console and buy a bunch of accessories and a game as well.
It is a bit nasty of Currys to do this. They know PS5’s are in short supply, but they are inflating their profits by insisting you buy a bundle with extra controllers, a headset, a remote and other bobbins. An extra controller is always handy but most gamers will already have a headset, and they are charging full price for the games such as Horizon Forbidden West, a game you can get at £15 below the RRP on Amazon.
The packs also include a Western Digital SN850 1TB SSD storage drive with heatsink, to boost the internal 825GB, which is another nice addition but still a costly extra.

Technically you are making a saving with the pack, the PS5 is £450, Horizon is £70, an extra DualSense is £65, the WD Black SSD with heatsink is £170, and the Headset is £50, so £805 in total, so you do save £50 on the RRP. However, as mentioned many of these items are discounted in places such as Amazon, so you can get pretty much the same value from buying everything separately.
If you are that desperate for a console, or do want all those extra items then head over to Currys before they sell out.
You may want to keep your eye on other retailers who may be releasing PS5 stock at any point. To grab a console you are going to need the links, which we have compiled below.

“The packs also include a 825 GB SSD storage drive”
No, the PS5 includes that. The Currys bundle includes an extra 1TB SSD on top of that. (Obviously those are pretend GBs, and not actual real ones, which come out as 768GB for the PS5 and 930 or so for the extra 1TB one. Minus another 100GB for the PS5 OS, and however much of the mysterious “other” storage you need)
It’s even more of a saving with the £799 bundle, with both GT7 and HFW. An extra game for an extra 50 quid?
Or you can not encourage shitty bundling behaviour and buy just a PS5 from somewhere that has them on their own. Whenever that might be.

Expansion SSDs for the PS5 actually get the full drive. The other and OS partition stays on the original internal drive.
My 1TB expansion actually gave me 1TB of extra space, something which I was not expecting
MrYd
I didn’t say it was the OS and “other” data taking up space on both SSDs.
And an actual 1TB of space? From a 1TB SSD?? Or one of those pretend, smaller TB? The trillion byte version? Or about 0.91 real TB.

I think the best way, without paying for ridiculous bundles or from eBay, is to just sign up on the PS Direct store and wait for them to email you. I did this and, after the first attempt which Sony buggered up, I had a shiny new PS5 in the space of maybe a month. I’m super happy with it too, have barely touched the PS4 since I got it.

Quite frankly, F Currys. They should have gone out of business about 20 years ago. Makes me so angry when my mum says she’s just gone to Currys to buy a new microwave or something when you can definitely get it cheaper online.
