The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was announced back in September 2020, putting Ubisoft’s global network of developers in the spotlight by entrusting the game’s creation to their teams in Pune and Mumbai, India. Given just how much 2020 sucked, it was no surprise when the game’s release was delayed from January 2021 to March 2021, before then delaying the game’s release indefinitely.

Ubisoft writes, “The decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.”

Right from the off there was a negative reaction to the remake’s visuals, finding them underwhelming considering how good some other remakes of classic games have looked, but the indefinite delay suggested that there were more deep-rooted problems with the game’s progress. Ubisoft’s clearly decided that it’s best to put the game’s development in the hands on their Montreal studio, which is sure to be an major blow to their Indian teams, especially since, the internet being the internet, it now has plenty of people thinking the initial vitriol being lobbed at the original development team has been vindicated.
