Take-Two will release eight remakes or remasters in the next few years

The latest financials from Take-Two Interactive have revealed a busy release schedule with twenty-four “Immersive Core” games being released until mid 2025. These include The Quarry, Marvel’s Midnight Suns and iterations of the NBA, PGA Tour, and WWE franchises.

They also list eight games that are “new iterations of previously released titles”, so remakes or remasters. The Bioshocks, Mafias, Borderlands, and a fair few of the Grand Theft Auto’s have already been given the remaster treatment so what else is there?

The obvious answer is Red Dead Redemption, rumours of a re-release of that have been swirling around for a very long time. Bully would be another obvious choice, but it’s even older than Red Dead Redemption so would probably need a full remake to bring the graphics up to today’s standards. Spec Ops: The Line would be wonderful but highly unlikely, perhaps Battleborn? Or Evolve? Remember them? Ok, maybe not.

Personally I’m hoping for a remake of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Circus Friends – Asian Elephants, a 2K game from 2009.

Take-Two’s last remaster was not warmly received, Two Interactive Chairman & CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke to CNBC the launch of The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive edition which was plagued with multiple bugs and terrible frame rates.

“With regards to the GTA trilogy, that was actually not a new title. That was a remaster of pre-existing titles,” said Strauss, as if that’s an excuse. “We did have a glitch in the beginning, that glitch was resolved. And the title of has done just great for the company. So we’re very excited.”

A glitch that caused the game to have a Metacritic rating of 49%. A glitch that caused Rockstar to pull it from sale. A glitch that made us score the previously highly rated games just 6/10. And a glitch that spawned a grovelling apology from the studio.
