The digital adaptation of the board game Gloomhaven will be coming to consoles in 2023, having received plenty of acclaim for its PC Steam release last year.
Gloomhaven sees you take control of a band of mercenaries – whether playing solo or in up-to four player co-op – and heading around completing quests near the titular city of Gloomhaven. Mixing together tactical RPG and dungeon crawling gameplay elements, it’s a faithful adaptation of the tabletop game.
The PC release was developed by Flaming Fowl Studios, and published by Asmodee Digital, but Saber Interactive will be handling the console port.
In a statement to Eurogamer, Asmodee CEO Pierre Ortolan confirmed that “We’re excited to bring Gloomhaven to new players around the world with Saber Interactive. Partnerships like this are one of the great advantages we have available to us now as part of Embracer Group, and we look forward to tapping into even more opportunities to deliver for our fans in the future.”
Yup, that’s right, this is all an Embracer Group joint, with one part of the many-sided mega-publisher enlisting another part of the company’s diverse collection of developers, publishers and studios to help them out. Saber Interactive is well-known for pulling off “impossible” ports to the Nintendo Switch, such as The Witcher 3, the Crysis remasters, and Vampyr, but they’re also leant upon for a wide variety of other projects. They’ve been contracted for the Halo: The Master Chief Collection remasters, and cooked up their own games, like World War Z and Evil Dead: The Game.
