Summer Game Fest kicked off with a new look at Street Fighter 6, revealing Guile as a returning character for the hit fighting game series, and showing off a good chunk of new gameplay featuring the tall cropped haircut fighter (and his comb!)
Street Fighter 6 had its big reveal last week during Sony’s State of Play, revealing a brand new art style, and open world hub and plenty more. Street Fighter 6 is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023.
There’s now a city to run around in and explore, a hub where you can hang out, possibly while waiting for an online fight to crop up.
The combat that we saw in both gameplay trailers has looks as bone-crunchingly good as ever too, with a hint at a return of the focus attacks of Street Fighter IV, which hopefully shows that they’re thinking about what the fans want and making sure that they’re in place. Famous names return too, with Ryu and Chun-Li facing off against newcomers Jamie and Luke, and we now have Guile confirmed as well.
Street Fighter V was a great entry in the series, and Capcom have continued to support it with DLC ever since it launched in 2016. We gave it a 9/10 all those years ago, saying “Even as a person whose grasp of fighting games is nowhere near top-tier standard, Street Fighter V is the most fun I’ve had in a fighting game in years. It’s a bold choice by Capcom to make this an expanding platform rather than a simpler game release, and it means that while it’s light on content, you have to appraise its stability, core combat and look to its true form in the future. Based on the strength of the gameplay and performance, Street Fighter V is a sublime fighting game and shows that this old dog still has some new tricks.”
