Grounded gets 1.0 launch in September

Obsidian’s huge mini survival adventure Grounded is getting its full 1.0 launch in September 2022. The co-op survival game is out for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC in Game Preview and on Xbox Game Pass right now, but will get a massive update for its full release

Grounded was announced and entered Xbox Game Preview back in 2020, one of the first new projects from the recently acquired Obsidian Entertainment. The game is a step away from the company’s traditional RPG fare, a four player co-op survival game that borrows a little from the classic film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!

As you’d expect from an early access game, Grounded was expanded and fleshed out with semi-regular content drops, updates and expansions. The very first update, for example, added giant (from your minuscule perspective) birds.

With the full launch, you’ll now get the full story about how a mad scientist accidentally (?) shrank you and your buddies down to the size of a bug, but there will also be new armour recipes, new weapon recipes and the terrifying Mantis to battle.

We enjoyed what we saw when the game came out in July 2020, Dom writing in our preview:

“Despite Grounded being in Game Preview, it feels agreeably solid and fully formed, at least in terms of the mechanics at play. The narrative setup is intriguing, and told with a wry sense of humour that should win over even the most hardened of hearts. Thanks to its launch on Game Pass as well, this is one mini adventure with a huge amount of potential.”

Of course, considering how long ago that was and how little content was in the game at that time, we’re looking forward to seeing an awful lot more from the full release.
