Greyhill Incident is an upcoming survival horror game in development by Refugium Games, and it looks like a proper homage to classic alien abduction stories. The trailer shows saucer shaped UFOs and grey aliens as they target the village of Greyhill and its inhabitants. The game is set in the year 1992 so players will not be able to use current tech to fend off the aliens.
The residents of Greyhill have to work together instead to survive the alien abduction situation. You play as one of the residents of Greyhill, with access to limited resources including a gun and some bullets along with a baseball bat as means of defence. The residents have not got the police or other authorities involved because of fears that they will not be believed, and instead locked up in psychiatric hospitals. Greyhill Incidents events take place at night with a fog blanketing the local area, meaning visibility is lower than ideal especially when trying to avoid the aliens. The game also appears to have been influenced a lot by the movie Signs, though whether these aliens are hurt by water or unable to open doors remains to be seen.
Survival horror games with aliens as the main hunters are quite few and far between. The most well known and acclaimed would be 2014’s Alien Isolation. In our review at the time, Peter wrote, “That idea of never being comfortable with how the game is unravelling is something that feels quite unique and it’s extremely well imagined here. Plenty of survival horror games have you feeling vulnerable as you essentially fulfil the role of a hero but things are different here. In Alien: Isolation you’re not the hero, you’re the prey.”
Greyhill Incident is currently only confirmed for a PC release via Steam, and it is expected to released in 2023.
