The Witcher Season 3 will begin streaming on Netflix in Summer 2023, the streaming company has confirmed. The show had begun filming earlier this year, so it seems all of that is essentially complete and it is likely in post production. This release is a year and half after season two was first available, with that having come in December 2021.
A story outline for The Witcher Season 3 was released earlier this year as well. The outline says, “As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
Earlier this year, CDProjektRED also confirmed that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be available by the end of Q4 2022, though a release date for that is still pending. The developer also confirmed that it had started work on The Witcher 4, which will start off a new storyline for the series. Instead of returning to Geralt’s School of the Wolf, the new Witcher game looks like it will embark on a tale involving a Witcher from the School of the Lynx. The Witcher 4 will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and that is all that is known about the game. There is no release date, no confirmed platforms, nor even an inkling of how far into development CDProjektRED is with the game. Following the initial backlask against Cyberpunk 2077’s release, it is likely the developer will be taking its time to get things right.
