Bulletstorm development team People Can Fly have announced that Take-Two have decided to back away from publishing their “Project Dagger” game. It seems that the split is  mostly amicable, People Can Fly has retained the intellectual property rights to the Project Dagger and will continue to develop the game themselves.

They also say they plan to self publish the game but have not ruled out going to another publishers if a deal can be made.

“I assume we will part on good terms, and I don’t see reasons why we couldn’t work with Take-Two on some other project in the future.”  said Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly. “We strongly believe in the Project Dagger’s potential and are now committed to continue its development within our self-publishing pipeline. The game is still in pre-production – our team is now focusing on closing combat and game loops and migrate from UE4 to UE5. I’m conscious that this decision will add investments on us, but self-publishing is part of our strategy. Of course, we are not ruling out working with a new publisher if this creates a compelling business opportunity.”

People Can Fly have seven projects in development but have over 550 staff to cover the projects.  Alongside Dagger there is also Gemini, a AAA shooter which is going to be published Square Enix , two self published games, Projects Bifrost and Victoria, and two VR games, one of which is based on a People Can Fly IP.

As far as I know the only IP they own is Bulletstorm and Bulletstorm VR sounds a very good thing to me. However, they recently purchased Chicago based Phosphor Studios and  Polish-based Incuvo Studios so perhaps the game is based off one of their IPs.

The other VR game is Green Hell, which People Can Fly say is in development but was released in June this year, perhaps they’re working on a PSVR 2 version.
