The lates Resident Evil Showcase has given us a brand new look at the Resident Evil 4 remake, revealing both a story trailer and some of the gameplay changes and shifts in tone and style that will feature when the game launches across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PC on 24th March 2023.
Let’s start with the new story trailer:
And now for the gameplay trailer:
The gameplay shown comes from the very beginning of the game, as Leon’s search the US President’s missing daughter takes a wrong turn in the Spanish wilderness. Coming across a derelict house, he finds that something very strange is going on here, his Spanish compatriots ambushed, and the locals being inexplicably hostile.
The game quickly moves along to a village which in 2005 was a dramatic showcase of a sandbox environment with many enemies to fend off, plenty of item gathering for different ways to defend yourself and a sudden shift in gameplay style away from that found in the original Resident Evil trilogy.
Resident Evil 4’s remake follows in the footsteps of Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, refitting the game with modern graphics and updating the gameplay to current standards. Of course, Resi 4 pioneered the over the shoulder horror game, but we’re still worlds away from the feel of mid-2000s games in how current games feel to play.
RE4 in 2023 will be ditching the old tank controls for a much more fluid style of motion, and you gain new abilities to perform silent takedowns, parry incoming attacks and quickly escape grabs using Leon’s knife.
I’m sure many people simply cannot wait to get their hands on the Resident Evil 4 remake next year. Capcom has revealed two special editions of the game that add extra content like skins or physical extras.
Here’s the Deluxe Edition with some bonus digital DLC:

And this is the Collector’s Edition, which is physical only, including all the Deluxe Edition contents and a natty Leon statue for your mantlepiece.
