Saints Row 2023 roadmap includes three DLC expansions

Volition has released a new roadmap for 2022’s Saints Row, with the studio confirming that the series reboot will be getting three new DLC expansions this year. The roadmap also includes two new city districts, vehicles, cosmetics, and missions. The city districts will be free to all players, while the missions will be part of the expansion pass.

The first piece of content though is a cosmetic crossover with Dead Island 2, with free items arriving in June inspired by the zombie game. May will see the release of the first expansion, The Heist and the Hazardous, which will also see the addition of the Sunshine Springs district. The May update will also add a selfie mode and combat improvements. July sees the second expansion which is Doc Ketchum’s Murder Circus, along with a further free update. However, it is not known what the content of that update will be. Finally, in August the third expansion will be released. It is yet to be named but the free update will also see the addition of the next new district, as well as further updates.

Saints Row was not quite the success that was hoped for, which led to Volition being merged into Gearbox by parent company Embracer. While the game performed in line with expectations financially, it was not a critical success.

In our Saints Row review, Jim wrote,“After so many facelifts, there were fears Saints Row would fail to recapture the unconventional beauty of the earlier games, but this reboot proves how adept Volition is when it comes to reinventing their flagship franchise. This latest outing is my favourite game in the series to date, so while basic combat and dips in visual quality are disappointing, they did little to keep me away from Santo Ileso. You’ll struggle to find anything ground-breaking though this sandbox is bursting with entertaining things to do, ideal for sharing with a partner in crime.”
