Microsoft adds more games to Xbox Game Pass Core library for launch

With Xbox Live Gold set to be completely replaced with Xbox Game Pass Core tomorrow, 14th September, Microsoft has grown the number of games that will be included in the mini library of games that it provides, in place of the outgoing Games with Gold.

When announcing Xbox Game Pass Core back in July, Microsoft promised “more than 25 games” would be included in a cut-down equivalent to the full Game Pass library. They announced 19 of those games at that time, but ahead of tomorrow’s re-launch, they’ve now confirmed a full library of 36 games.

With the newly confirmed games in bold, the 36 games are:

  • Among Us
  • Astroneer
  • Celeste
  • Dead Cells
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • DOOM Eternal Standard Edition
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Firewatch
  • Forza Horizon 4 Standard Edition
  • Gang Beasts
  • Gears 5 Game of the Year Edition
  • Golf with your Friends
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • Ori & the Will of the Wisps
  • Overcooked! 2
  • Payday 2: Crimewave Edition
  • Powerwash Simulator
  • Psychonauts 2
  • Slay the Spire
  • Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition
  • Stardew Valley
  • State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition
  • Superliminal
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
  • Unpacking
  • Vampire Survivors

While the full fat Xbox Game Pass receives new games pretty much every week, and with fresh announcements every fortnight, Xbox Game Pass Core’s library will only be updated 2-3 times a year.

Xbox Game Pass Core is a rebrand and relaunch of the outgoing Xbox Live Gold, and the increasingly anaemic set of monthly games that were being offered through Games with Gold.

Game Pass Core retains the Xbox Live Gold pricing, with Game Pass Core will cost $9.99 / £6.99 per month, or $59.99 / £49.99 annual subscription price point.

On the whole this will be a pretty significant reboot of Xbox’s baseline multiplayer subscription option. However, you do end up in an awkward spot of having Game Pass Core at $10, the full Game Pass library for $11, and then the all encompassing Game Pass Ultimate at $17, when considering monthly costs. Really the only good value option is to go for the annual subscription. At least they haven’t (yet) followed Sony’s lead in hiking that price…
