Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior targets Meta Quest headsets this month

Rebellion are bringing their Sniper Elite series back to Meta Quest this month, with Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior coming out across Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro on 30th November 2023.

Instead of the series’ mainstay hero Karl Fairburne, Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior casts you as ‘the Partisan’ an Italian resistance fighter doing his utmost to eject the Nazi army from his homeland. That tale will see you uncovering powerful “wonder-weapons” that will also have to be taken out. This seems to follow on from the story told in the original Sniper Elite VR.

The game also comes with Sniper Hunt and Last Stand game modes. The first pits you against rival snipers, having you try to lure and discover their position by first targeting patrols of enemy soldiers, and then aiming to take them out as well. Last Stand is then a wave-based defence mode, with weapon and ammo gathering, trap-setting and more.

Developed in partnership with Just Add Water, in Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior you play as ‘the Partisan’, a former Italian resistance soldier reliving his memories of banishing the Nazi forces from his homeland. The game features a full story-driven campaign in which you uncover Nazi ‘wonder-weapons’ that must be destroyed along with those behind the plans.

Similar to the original Sniper Elite VR, Rebellion has partnered with Just Add Water to develop the game, though this time around it’s Meta’s Quest headsets that are taking the spotlight as the exclusive platform. The first game also launched across the original PlayStation VR and SteamVR.

Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior will only set you back £10.99 / €14.99 / $14.99, though, which is less than half the price of the first game.

Speaking so much of that first game, we reviewed Sniper Elite VR on PSVR, with Jim saying, “As we wait for the inevitable Sniper Elite 5, this is one virtual reality shooter you won’t want to miss. Sniper Elite VR hits its mark with immensely fun sniping gameplay, delivered in perfectly portioned bursts of action.”
