No Rest for the Wicked is the next game from Ori developer Moon Studios

Moon Studios, the makes of the exceptional Ori and the Will of the Wisps, has announced their next game, No Rest for the Wicked.

No Rest for the Wicked is a big shift from the metroidvania genre and side-scrolling action of their first two games. It leaps and smashes its way across into the Diablo-like action RPG genre, though there’s naturally much more to it than that.

Where the two Ori games were Xbox exclusives, No Rest for the Wicked will be published by Private Division, opening the door for a cross-platform release. Initially the game will be going through Steam Early Access in the first quarter of 2024, before a full release across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

“We have been dreaming of being able to contribute to the ARPG genre that we all grew up with and love,” said studio founder Mahler. “After the success of Ori, it was clear to us that Moon was now mature enough to finally realize those dreams. We can’t wait to see how players will react to this entirely new take on the genre.”

Set across the island of Isola Sacra, each region will feature complex protagonists with problems of their own to solve. Moon Studios is looking to push the combat beyond the typical top-down action RPG fare with animation-driven fighting that wants to be both brutal and precise. The aim is to reward more advnaced play through learning the skill and timing to get the best out of your character, as opposed to more typical button-mashing and ability casting.

The game will also feature multiplayer for up to four players, sharing the same world and progress in online co-op.

More details on No Rest for the Wicked will be revealed on 1st March when Moon Studios will be hosting a Wicked Inside stream.
