Sony’s State of Play has dropped a brand new game and it’s free and exclusive to PlayStation 5. Silent Hill: The Short Message is “an all-new, modern Silent Hill experience, powered by the latest in game technology,”

The game is up on the US PSN, you can grab it here, and here’s the link for the UK Store.

The game has you playing as Anita who has has been receiving messages from her friend Maya. Anita finds herself at a crumbling apartment block, infamous for rumors of suicides. Reality starts to fracture and she soon finds herself in another version of the world full of creepy messages and a very nasty scuttling thing that persues her down corridors. Anita cannot leave until she solves Maya’s message , “Can’t leave til you find it”, but what exactly do you need to find?

The first person perspective and from what we can see in the trailer, lack of combat, does bring back memories of the ill fated PT, another free game that was released to announce a reboot of Silent Hill. We all know how well that one went, lets hope the new Silent Hill games on the way do manage to be released.

“We’re releasing the whole game for free, so if you’ve never played a Silent Hill game before, we hope you’ll take this chance to get a taste of what Silent Hill is all about,” explained producer Motoi Okamoto on the PlayStation Blog.

“This game started as something like an experimental project – an opportunity for us to try out different things, see what worked and what didn’t, and grow and polish our horror game expertise. We also had a lot of people who were relatively new in their career but still loved Silent Hill, and who really wanted to be involved in making a horror game, so we used this as a way for our team to build hands-on experience, too.”
