Metro Exodus – how to upgrade from PS4 to PS5 for free header

Sony continue to hit it out of the park with this week’s State of Play as they’ve announced a brand new title in the Metro franchise called Metro Awakening VR. Surprising no one, it’s a virtual reality game for the PSVR2, Meta Quest and Steam VR, and it’s dropping you straight into the apocalyptic Soviet setting of the hit series.

The brand new reveal trailer showed us a good portion of what you can expect, and in line with the franchise’s previous entries, it looks like a healthy dose of creeping through deadly tunnels and abandoned underground stations, while blasting a series of mutants, monsters and unfriendly human beings with an array of weaponry.

Based on the Metro 2033 book, the videogames have been with us for many years, forging their first-person shooter roots on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Titles in the series include Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, and most recently Metro Exodus which met with rave reviews at launch, including our own rave review which said, “Metro Exodus provides an immersive FPS experience that marks a new milestone for the franchise. Its survival-horror, sandbox and shooter elements are remarkably well balanced, constituting an engaging and thrilling game that’ll leave you no stranger to a good jump scare. The once linear horror franchise has been reformed, introducing expansive environments to indulge in without derailing the narrative. Metro Exodus is a must play.”

The game is being handled by VR experts Vertigogames, whose previous works include the Arizona Sunshine series, After the Fall and The 7th Guest VR, all of which means that we’re reasonably excited to see what they can do with the evocative setting and narrative of the Metro series. It seems like a perfect fit, and with the power of PSVR2 it has the potential to be a visual delight when it hits our eyes sometime in the future.
