Good Shepherd and developer Violet Saint have announced the release date for Moroi. This Romanian folkore-inspired hack ‘n’ slasher is set to launch for PC on 30th April – a Steam demo is already available.
Taking its name from the Romanian folk monster, Moroi is set to bring together plenty of ideas and inspirations unfamiliar to many of us from different parts of the world. “Become one with the Cosmic Engine,” the trailer blurb tells us. “Peer into the abyss. Fight for your life. Cling to your precious sanity.”
That was a strong theme when we went hands on with the game in February. The 30 minute demo let us glimpse the many twists and turns that the game looks set to take.
In our preview, Steve said, “About 20 minutes into the demo, your player character is seemingly killed and there is a drastic change in tone and scenery. The tonal whiplash from this moment is my abiding memory of my time with Moroi. It is clearly a game that isn’t afraid to take you in some weird and unexpected directions, reminding me in part of recent classics like Indika or the Zeno Clash series.
“If the rest of the game comes close to the strangeness of this 30 minute demo then Moroi should be guaranteed to become a cult classic. With a release date of early 2025 we shouldn’t have too long to wait before checking out the full game.”
