Gothic Classic trilogy is coming to consoles, as remake demo drops onto consoles

While everyone patiently waits for the Gothic remake, THQ Nordic has announced that the original trilogy is being ported to consoles, coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One in 2026.

Alternatively, the Nyras demo for the Gothic Remake is now available to play on PS5 and Xbox Series, having previously been released only for PC.

The three games were originally released between 2001 and 2006, and have gone down as true cult classics of the action role-playing genre – such is the passion, of course, that THQ Nordic dabbled with and eventually greenlit the full remake of the first game!

What’s a little bit curious is that Gothic 1 and 2 were already ported to Nintendo Switch in 2023. However Gothic 3 was not brought to the handheld at that time, and there’s no mention of Switch for this fresh set of ports.

While it will be great to have the trilogy on new platforms, it will also be tempting to just keep waiting for the Gothic remake, with a nice new Xardas trailer exploring another of the key characters.

As mentioned, the Nyras demo has now been ported across to consoles, but we’ve already played it on PC. In our hands on impressions of this prologue story, Steve said, “The Gothic 1 Remake holds a lot of promise, looking set to retain the feel and challenge of the original whilst updating the interface and graphics to appeal to modern gamers. It remains a crying shame that Piranha Bytes are no more, but Alkimia seem to be honouring their legacy in all the right ways.”

  1. Downloaded it yesterday, no option to invert Y-axis makes it a non-runner for me.
