A new Fire Emblem has been announced for Nintendo Switch 2, the preeminent tactics RPG of the modern era jumping on the new generation of Nintendo console in 2026.

There’s a distinct Roman tone to this adventure, with the introduction of the Heroic Games as a framing device for the story, and no doubt also for plenty of the game’s landmark battles. However, it also appears that the story will spread much further, digging into the background and past of this world.

Details are thin on the ground, but it certainly looks good with anime-level cutscenes wrapped around the traditional TRPG combat.

Fire Emblem has become one of the mainstay franchises for Nintendo after it surged in popularity on the Nintendo 3DS. There were a couple of great entries on Switch, with Fire Emblem Engage the most recent in 2023. Of that game, Dom said, “Fire Emblem Engage balances the series’ past and its future, offering a renewed focus on the tactical gameplay, an endearing cast of old and new faces, and the best visuals the franchise has ever seen.”
