Ace Team shared a gameplay reveal for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, their Lovecraftian co-op horror game, which will test your perceptions of reality. The game launches on 15th July for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a demo expected between now and then.
You will start on the shore of an island, searching for loot in a cursed jungle that you don’t understand. Playable in four player co-op, you need to work together. Monsters will appear early on and need to be staved off, whether using swords, bow and arrow, and firearms, though using guns can make the jungle more dangerous as you head deeper. This gear is dished out to the party as a whole, so you need to divvy it up.
Heading deeper into the jungle will start to bring more psychological effects into play, playing with sound and what and who you see to make you doubt what’s going on… potentially tricking you into harming one another. Eventually there do come the large monsters who stomp around and may be hostile to you.
As the dangers mount – perhaps because you’ve managed to snag some treasure that alerted the jungle to you – you need to try and flee, getting back out to the galleon that is your home base.
