Warhorse confirms both a The Lord of the Rings RPG and more Kingdom Come are in development

With the rumours swirling, Warhorse Studios has confirmed that they are working on a game in the fantasy world of The Lord of the Rings, as well as a new Kingdom Come adventure.

“You might have heard the rumours,” they write on social media. “It’s time to reveal what we are working on.”

They list the two projects as:

  • An open world Middle-earth RPG
  • A new Kingdom Come adventure

It’s not entirely clear whether this “Kingdom Come adventure” will be a standalone experience or some kind of expansion to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Either way, they also caution that they will only be sharing more “when the time is right.”

It’s not currently clear how advanced either project is, though it feels right that one of them would be entering into full production at this time. Warhorse released Kingdom Come: Deliverance II last February to great acclaim, the sweeping Bohemian epic picking up after the events of the first game and continuing Henry’s adventure. This was continued and expanded on through a season pass of paid DLC including the expansion Brushes with Death, Legacy of the Forge and Mysteria Ecclesiae.

With the season pass wrapped up by November last year, Warhorse was also able to produce a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S enhanced release of the original game, which arrived in February.

In our Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 review, Gareth said, “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 continues to fulfil the uncompromising vision of the first game. It weaves together a world of lords, knights, peasants and bandits in medieval Europe, with poor Henry of Skalitz caught somewhere in the middle just trying to cope. It’s grand in scale whilst being full of fine details and it sometimes gets in its own way a little bit, but if this is your kind of game it’ll be one that you don’t want to end because there’s nothing else quite like it.”
