007 First Light is getting new story content as Year One plans revealed

IOI is not holding up with 007 First Light. The game may have only just released, but during Summer Game Fest a brand new story mission was teased as the studio plans for a year of added content.

There’s multiple sides to this, as IO is expanding on the TacSim content with a range of new missions and challenges set to be added through the year, testing players on their mastery of the gameplay. Highlighted in the trailer, players will be able to return to The Workshop segment in Kensington, and race the Aston Martin Valhalla through the Slovak mountains. More TacSim updates will come through regular updates in the coming months for off-roading in Mauritania, rescuing The Pearl from hijacking, and exploring Webb Industries HQ.

But there’s more, because a full story mission will also be released, returning to Aleph and looking to explore the character of Pirate King Bawma (Lenny Kravitz) more deeply. Q has even cooked up a new gadget to support this, the Even G2 smart glasses, which can open up new gameplay opportunities.

A New Game+ mode for the main campaign is also being explored by the studio.

So, even if the future of 007 and James Bond as a game franchise might look a little uncertain, thanks to somewhat vague comments and quotes from the new rights holder and future publisher, Amazon, IO clearly has major plans to keep people engaged with their self-published origin. IO has announced now that 2.7 million copies of 007 First Light have been sold through the game’s first week on sale, which is great news.

In our 007 First Light Review, Jim said, “007 First Light is an incredibly well-executed action adventure blockbuster with a truly engrossing story, slick presentation, and layered gameplay systems. It marks a major evolution for IO Interactive, thrusting the studio into that coveted top tier of video game developers. It also has us excited for the team’s future projects, whether that’s more Bond or a return to Hitman at some point down the road.”
