Saber Interactive, the developer behind acclaimed third person shooter Space Marine 2, has shared a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming Turok reboot.
Having tackled zombies in World War Z, and aliens in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Saber are preparing to cross dinosaurs off their kill list when Turok: Origins launches later this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The new trailer is brief, but gives us a closer look at some of the dino enemies players will come up against and the deadly finishers used to take them down. Turok: Origins is definitely channelling some of that Space Marine 2 energy here, seamlessly combining visceral melee and shooting action, featuring a cast of characters who each have their own unique loadouts.
While it can be played in solo it looks built for co-op fun, pitting squads of up to four dino hunters against waves of grunts and powerful bosses. Character progression is likely to play a big part here, with each hero having their own abilities to unlock and upgrade as well as scope for customisation.
There’s no launch date for Turok: Origins, though it is due to launch some time this autumn. Like many video game publishers, Saber Interactive has no doubt held back on committing to a release date until it gets a proper lay of the land in regards to the slew of heavy hitters already filling up the calendar.
For many gamers, this will likely be their first experience with the long-running series that first made its debut in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 (and PC). The FPS franchise doesn’t have quite the same cache as a DOOM or Quake with a previous attempt to reboot Turok in 2008 falling flat. However, there’s still some prestige surrounding the Turok name – this, combined with Saber’s recent track record, is more than enough to get us excited.
