Activision has announced the open beta dates and details for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which will take place in the back half of August. This will follow on from a big Call of Duty NEXT stream on 21st August to reveal more about the game.
The first weekend takes place from 21st August through 25th August and is exclusive to those who pre-order the game on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Pre-orders for Switch 2 are not going live until after this weekend.
Weekend 2 is open to all players with no pre-orders necessary, and will take place from 28th August through 1st September for PS5, XSX|S, PC and Switch 2.
It will be very interesting to see how performance holds up on Nintendo’s newest console, especially when Activision are dropping support for the last generation PS4, which is seen to be roughly equivalent to the Switch 2 in terms of raw power.
The multiplayer open beta will feature a selection of Operations and 19 weapons across a bunch of modes from small 3v3 skirmishes up to large scale tactical battles. Search & Destroy will feature, as will the new Kill Block mode and there’s the Training Mobility Course to test yourself on.
One thing that doesn’t seem to be in this testing session (or at least, I haven’t seen a mention of it) is the DMZ extraction shooter mode, which is new for the series.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on 23rd October 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It will not be available on the legacy consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, which are also losing support for Warzone. This time, the game is heading to Korea and features a bearded Captain Price and the tag line “No line holds forever.”
