What We Played – Beast of Reincarnation, The Mound & Big Walk

It’s the peaks of holidaying season round here, as we grab the moments away that we can, and because of that I spent a little bit of a time on an airplane trying to remember (and failing) how to play Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Maybe, with the Switch 2 patch as encouragement, I’ll power through it this time and really get into it, because Dom will tell you it’s one of the best JRPGs out there, and I don’t want to have to accuse him of fibbing!

Aside from that, I’ve spent a good time playing Big Walk over the past week, in various different groups of twos, threes and now a little bit bigger. It’s a truly lovely game with a distinctive take on co-op and refinement that stands out from the ‘friendslop’ definition and crowd.

Tuffcub played a shooty dinosaur, the name of which he’s completely forgotten, even though he reviewed it and enjoyed it for what it is – it was Primal Carnage: Evolution, if that ringing endorsement has you curious. Beyond that, he’s been playing games in a more co-op fashion, completing Split Fiction, “which was lovely but overly long” he says, and taking turns to play through Dispatch.

As usual, Gamoc has been juggling a bunch of games for review, with The Relic: First Guardian, Sephiria and Montabi all on the go. For his bit of downtime, he’s turned to the disreputable life of a pirate in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake.

Finally, after all this time, Aran can say “I have finished Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth.” Does that mean he actually finished it, or is he just saying it? Well, he goes on to say that ” I did enjoy it and how it was a trip down memory lane, but I don’t think it had the best story in the series,” so you can judge for yourselves.

Steve gathered his co-op gang together to play a thoroughly different style of co-op game, the Lovecraftian co-op horror of The Mound, and has found that it’s a really good time when you have friends to share in the mind-bending effects and illusions. He’s also progressing with Midnight Peaks for a review, and enjoyed the first few hours of Beast of Reincarnation.

It’s just been Final Fantasy XIV for Reuben, as he returned from Fan Fest in Berlin with a fresh zeal and desire. Also, he’s got the Switch 2 version of the game in hand and you can expect some thoughts on this sometime soon.

And finally, Dom’s been on holiday, but did manage to turn in a few reviews this week, sharing his aforemention effusive opinions about Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch 2, and somewhat less positive thoughts about Beast of Reincarnation for our review.
