Sucker Punch has revealed Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, a new version of the game which will launch on 1st October and coincide with the release of and include a new narrative expansion and a new single-player survival mode.
The Complete Edition will be available for $69.99, while those who already own the game can upgrade (essentially buying the season pass) for $14.99. There is no individual release of the story or survival mode.
It’s a funny way of announcing that a new story expansion is coming to the hit open world adventure, since you tend to get the ‘Complete Edition’ or ‘GOTY Edition’ of a game only after DLC has been released. Seeing the headline from Sony, I felt like I must have missed something. I hadn’t; they’ve just buried the lede a bit.
Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara is the new narrative expansion and will explore Atsu’s past by mixing the main game’s time period with flashbacks to her time on the mainland. it will introduce Nagato, a character from Atsu’s past, and will explore both a new valley in the present, filled with the Vipers gang, and look back to the Battle of Sekigahara.
Alongside this is Wanted, the new single-player survival mode which riffs on the roguelite form. You’ll take on bounties at the start of a run, taking down enemies to earn perks, and unlocking additional characters to play as – Atsu is joined by Oyuki and Nagato.
For all owners of the game, a free update will also be released with some quality of life improvements. This adds a Beauty of Yōtei mode for ambient screensaver-like view of Ezo, you’ll be able to transmog armour to have a distinct visual look while still getting to have better gear stats, and there’s new high contrast accessibility options.
More details on all of this will be revealed soon. This all builds on a fantastic game from 2025, which was already expanded with a returning online co-op mode, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, earlier this year.
Aran was full of praise for Ghost of Yōtei in our review, saying it “is an excellent game with an engrossing story, a great lead, deep combat and a land that has so much to discover with a lot of details. This is a truly worthy successor to Ghost of Tsushima.”
