Gravhounds demo drops with a bunch of improvements from the playtest

Octopus Panic has dropped a big demo for their dogsbody co-op shooter Gravhounds, available from today through 18th October.

The demo features seven planets across two solar systems to play through, and there’s four playable Gravhounds to choose between for this demo – Selene, Zane, Dozer and Finn – and there’s full support for playing solo or in a team of up to four players.

This demo arrives in time for Steam Next Fest, and follows on from the public playtest that was held at the end of September.

Speaking about that playtest, Josh Holmes, Co-Founder of Octopus Panic, said, “The support from our playtesters has been pretty overwhelming. We’re a small team, and having so many people take the time to play, report bugs, and share ideas has been a huge help.”

And there are some new developments since then. The demo includes various fixes and improvements for planets, resources, objectives, saves, crashes, animation, audio, effects and multiplayer reliability.

There’s also the major addition of a Mod Deck Builder which gives you more control over the possibilities you’ll encounter while on an expedition, while retaining a bit of unpredictability and randomisation.

Playing that playtest, I said, “There’s definitely some space for refinement, which is obviously the point of Early Access, but there’s a fun mish-mash of tower defence, person horde shooter, resource gathering and micro-survival genre here. Oh, and you can definitely feel the Jet Set Radio and Sunset Overdrive inspirations shining through for the pipe grinding combat.”
