Heavy Rain Gets Censored

PEGI have rated ‘Heavy Rain Edition Modifiée’, a revised version of the Quantic Dreams title.

The rating has dropped from an 18 to a 16 and ‘Extreme violence, violence towards defenceless people and sexual violence ‘ has been replaced with ‘Realistic looking violence, nudity of a sexual nature and strong language’

PEGI are listing a release date of 3rd August but the title does not appear to be available in any stores.

Quite why Quantic Dreams have spent time and money creating a new version is baffling. Surely everyone who wanted Heavy Rain has it by now and let’s face it, a sixteen year old can easily buy an 18 rated game.

  1. Also baffling as to why they bothered creating a new version when they cancelled the promised DLC chapters. Surely DLC is a more economically viable route if they weren’t done with the game?

    • Any reason why they cancelled DLC? I liked the Taxidermist, The first play through anyway.

      • They cancelled the DLC so they could implement Move control.

      • Move control that wasn’t as good as using the DS3…

      • Man, i’m so glad they didn’t do more DLC. The Taxidermist was free for me and i still found it not worth it.

      • I was disappointed by the cancellation of DLC, saying that i didnt purchase the Taxidermist. Move was awful on it too :/

  2. Also it’s weird that all the boxes I have seen in stores say it’s 15?

    • 18 cert in Ireland. Where are you based?

    • Yup, my copy is a 15

      • BBFC 15, however as you will find when we move completley to pegi ratings allot of 15 rated BBFC games are actually PEGI 18, for example assasins creed, BBFC 15 PEGI 18

  3. I got mine from http://www.littlewoodseurope.com at launch by pre-order and it’s a 15 rating.

  4. I think that means my ‘release-day C.E.’ will increase it’s value a good chunk!

    Seriously, I dont know up there in the UK or even in the US, but here in Spain we get stuff on TV that is way more offensive, rude or violent than many many games… Yet a 14 year old boy can buy//turn on a TV without anyone stopping them.

  8. Cant see how dumming down the adult nature of Heavy Rain will improve it in any way. Part of the appeal for the title for me was the fact that it dealt with such things as nudity and violence in an adult (if slightly wooden) way. How many directors cuts of films have there been where they add such seens back in? This seems like a backwards step in my view.

  9. Good to know, if this gets a patch for the proper edition at least I’ll know not to update.

  10. I dont remember it being particularly violent anyway.. Apart from that one “test” of course. I remember the boobies tho, they were great. :)
