GAME Website Back In Action

The website for GAME has sprung back into action, perhaps an indication that a deal has been struck to save the troubled high street retailer.

The website is also advertising Kinect Star Wars and Star Wars branded Xbox 360’s, products that were previously unavailable due to the group’s financial problems.

An RBS bank consortium and OpCapita have both placed bids for GAME and we’re expecting an announcement shortly.

  1. Yay, an Extra Life for GAME!

    • This is nothing to be happy about. GAME used to shove used games into peoples throats just the get the money instead of giving it to the developer. You would go up to the cashier at game with a new copy of L.A. Noire and he would ask you three damned times if you’re sure you don’t want a used copy. Its disgusting, and all that bad customer service and overall snobby approach has came back right at them, they got exactly what they deserved. Now that they’re apparently “not” closing we’ll have to deal with them once again.

      tl;dr – I hope they crash and burn.

      • GAME gave people a way of affording new games by allowing them to sell their old ones.

        Quite simply I would about 90% less new games if I couldn’t subsidise my purchase by offloading one I no longer play.

        For the record you don’t have to deal with them, it’s quite easy to walk past their door & not go in.

      • That would mean that everyone would keep on giving away their money to GAME instead of the people that ACTUALLY developed the game we’re buying. I find this absurd, as you are obtaining someones product while not giving them anything in return. Yes, the first customer bought that copy of the game. But the second, third and fourth did not. Count that up and you’ll have thousands if not millions of lost sales because of a stupid and lazy business model. 100% of the money from a used game sale goes to the store. I do not blame the employees or customers, mind you, but the higher-ups of retailers like these.

        This is why I think digital distribution is the future, so the money goes directly to the people that deserve it. When The new Xbox and PlayStation release their digital distribution only consoles, GAME, Gamestop and all the other game stores will close down, hopefully.

  3. I bet you that guy who traded his Vita in for £220 credit is crying for joy right now….he’s one lucky S.O.B ;-)
    (before anyone points out, I know he cant use it on the site, just saying at least its looking rosier than the start of the week

    • I thought exactly the same. I would have rather bought £220 of games, not used them, and returned them for a refund 30 days later and done the same again. At least you would have been holding the equity/credit rather than the store.

    • It won’t. They’re closed for good. Given how badly the staff let go were treated I won’t be buying anything off their site.

      • Different owners would probably mean different management and bring the staff back.
        There’s no way GAME Ireland could continue under the same management anyway.

  6. GAME in Hull have a banner up advertising that you can play Kinect Star Wars tomorrow and that they’ll have some stormtroopers there for a few hours so they must be getting money from somewhere.

    • Ah someone else from Hull, not bad. On their website the problem still remains, their prices are not competitive.

      • Make that 3 of us from Hull, guessing it’s the GAME in St Stephen’s as the one in Princess Quay is now shut

  7. I saw that the holding pages for both Game and Gamestation were displaying deals but now both sites are back up and running!
