The somewhat ridiculous restriction on Nintendo’s eShop for Wii U that stopped adults looking at 18 rated games outside of a very small time-slot each day has been lifted.
Previously gamers had to wait until 11pm each night before they could even browse games like ZombiU on the eShop, due to German law.
The rules were bent for Nintendo due to their “Parental Controls” system.

Good! I’m not sure in what form the law is enforced in Germany but the most restrictive age verification I’ve seen to date is a simple DOB check via dropdown menus (even on German sites) and those have been around for a while. One site actually had a verification system where you had to send in a copy of your passport in order to unlock such content for your account but it’s been lifter ages ago.

Good stuff! If Nintendo want to compete with Sony and Microsoft they have to overcome these sort of obstacles – and their parental controls should be enough to ensure that inappropriate content is only accessible to those of us that are old enough to enjoy it! (ZombiU is still horribly scary at any time of the day mind you…)
