Kill Your Friends On Purpose As Magicka: Wizard Wars Leaves Early Access This Month

Magicka 2 might be the first of Paradox Interactive’s games to come to console in partnership with Sony, as part of a major experiment for the company, but they’ve also been exploring new possibilities with some of their PC-only games, and one of those has been Magicka: Wizard Wars. Not only does it take Magicka’s co-operative wizarding and twist it into a competitive multiplayer game, but it’s also free-to-play and has ben their first foray into the world of Early Access. That last point is about to change though, as the game is set to get its official launch on April 28th.

It’s at that point where the game will get a bunch of new maps and a new game mode called Soul Harvest, but for those who are in the open beta already – and you can head over to Steam and just dive in, whenever you fancy – Tuesday 14th will bring a patch that has several of the new features that have been prepared for launch. There’s a new progression system based around earning tokens, you can test out Magick Scrolls before you unlock them to see if they suit your play style, and there’s a new in-game economy which means that all items can be purchased with real money (it’s F2P after all), earnt through gameplay or bought using in-game currency.

It’s been quite a while since we first previewed Wizard Wars, so it’ll be interesting to see how the game has evolved since then, but I must admit that I’m far more excited for May and Magicka 2…
