Ubisoft Will No Longer Make PS3 And Xbox 360 Games

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was speaking on an earnings call yesterday and revealed an interesting snippet of news. The company will not be creating any more games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with one notable exception.

“On Just Dance, we will continue to bring old-gen console versions,” said Yves. “But on the other products like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, The Division, and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions.”

No mention was made of the Nintendo consoles but I would presume that Just Dance would also be made for Wii U. This also means that there will not be a separate last-gen Assassin’s Creed this year.

The unannounced franchise that Yves mentions is set to be revealed later this year, probably at E3.

  4. I’m a bit surprised as there’s a huge number of people still using last gen consoles.

    • This might be an incentive for them to upgrade. Until now, casual’s haven’t had much of a reason to. They could still play (most) of the popular annual releases.

  5. Makes sense, this gen consoles will be 2 years old in November. Plus, I’m guessing if they started making games now for last generation consoles, they wouldn’t be released ’til probably at least late 2016. You would have thought that a majority of people would have upgraded by 2017.

    • Now if they’d just release a slim with a bigger HDD for less $ and bring some games out, I’ll get one.

  6. Good. Old gen is holding new gen back. Look at destiny for example, bungie stated they could only apply a small vault space upgrade due to restrictions with older gen.

  7. “Unannounced franchise” is probably Watch Dogs, isn’t it?

    • I’d presume so, otherwise they’re getting ahead of themselves assuming said game will sell enough to warrant becoming a franchise.

    • Yeah, for a moment I thought it was a new IP, but then I remembered WD.

  8. Any news on AC Rogue for PS4? Apologies, been out the loop for a while.

    • Nope, but the way it ended I think they’ll resume Shay’s story sometime.
