Metanet Software has announced that N++ will be releasing on PS4 on July 28th in North America, and July 29th in Europe. The platformer will have 2,360 levels at launch, which can be done alone, racing against others, or working co-operatively with people. For the first two weeks of sale N++ will be 20% off for PS Plus members. The developers have stated that they game will rarely be on sale, and that in the future there will be a price increase due to the additional content that will double the game’s content.
N++ will have a level editor included and every single level will have a leaderboard as well as replay options. There was a beta held over the last few weeks to ensure all of the server functionality to allow level sharing was working okay. Bugs were found and squashed as the beta went on, so smooth launch is expected. All the levels that were made by beta users will be playable once N++ is launched.

Now that the weekly PS Store update has moved to Tuesdays in Europe, why are we still getting content released on Wednesdays (and, in some cases, Thursdays)? It’s been all over the place in the last couple of months, and is starting to get very difficult to follow.
Anyway, enough ranting – really looking forward to this game!

Every 9 days I like to pretend that I’m Peter Jones from BBC’s Dragon’s Den…
So, ‘Metanet Software’, you’ve shown this in 7 cities. Did anyone show any genuine interest?
How many lines of code have you written and how much of your time have you invested? 166,092 lines of code and 2.5 years?
STOP! Don’t invest any more of your time or money. I’m out!
…Theo would have jumped on that!

166,092 lines of code in 2.5 years isn’t much.
Let’s say he was only working on it 5 days a week for a normal length working day. Assume a lot of the day is taken up by compiling the code and testing it, and trying to find where he forgot to close a bracket. (Remember, at least 1/4 of those 166,092 lines of code probably contain a single closing bracket ;)
Say 4 hours a day of actual coding.
That makes almost 64 lines of code an hour. Except it’s probably more like half a dozen to a dozen lines of code spread out over those 64 lines just to have any chance of it ever being readable.
So every 5 to 10 minutes, there’s a little 30 second ejaculation of code. Some number of lines pop up in one useful chunk, and then nothing for 10 minutes.
I bet it wasn’t really like that. More likely to be an hour of work a day for 2.5 years. And the rest of the time spent trying to persuade the 2 “designers” to do their job before giving up and saying “Sod it, we’ll go for some rubbish looking indie crap instead” ;)
