Funcom Announces Horror Game “The Park”

“Great…” you may be thinking to yourself with feigned enthusiasm, “another first person horror game coming to PC.” While it’s true that this once niche genre has swelled in recent years, developer Funcom is perhaps one of the few studios we can trust not to deliver a half-baked Slender clone.

Launching this October (and just in time for Halloween), “The Park” will have players exploring an amusement park after hours, as a mother searches for her missing son.

Funcom has already confirmed that the game will tie into The Secret World (our review). Although the MMO has fallen on hard times in the past, it easily has one of the most interesting settings of any game in the genre, meddling with themes of conspiracy, mythology, and the occult.

If Funcom can channel an ounce of that into The Park, it could be well worth playing.

  1. About time they put their skill to work on something that’s not an MMO. Will definitely be keeping an eye on this.

    • It’s a shame they haven’t worked on more singleplayer projects. An RPG (non MMO) set in The Secret World or Age of Conan universe would be brilliant.

      • Exactly! They seem good at making worlds, but the MMO market is tough and the genre repels a lot of people otherwise interested.

Hopefully they’ve started to see that, because I think if they’re to grow as a studio they need to try new genres.
