EA have allegedly taken the rather odd decision to not include the French in the Battlefield 1 multiplayer. IGN France spoke to EA about the lack of their countrymen in the game and they were told you will meet characters from France during the single player campaign, but not in the miltiplayer, at least not to begin with.
To really do justice to the French army in multiplayer and, once again, to show a side that was not used to see, we have chosen to dedicate an entire premium extension with special treatment after the launch of the game.
That quote is via Google Translate so comes with the usual caveat, but suffice to say the French are a little miffed you are going to have to pay for their country. A petition has been set up to ask EA why the French, and indeed the Russians, are missing from multiplayer.
The main union during the World War One was Triple Entente – which consisting of three main factions – England, France and Russian Empire. And two of these factions are not in the game about WW1? That’s truly unfair. Greatest battles on WW1 is Battle of Verdun with French side, and Brusilov offensive with Russian side. We think that this approach is extremely unfair and ask you to reconsider this aspect of the game.

Erm….. really?
Really EA?
You’re doing this and MACROtransactions.
Yeah, i remember.
It’s fecking Battlefield! It will sell and guess what, it may outsell COD this year due to Activision cocking up and franchise fatigue being in full effect.
This is unnecessary.
But because i’m English, i have no choice but to do this.
*points at france* HA HA!
Not doing it to Russia. It’s freaking Russia! I do it and they’ll beat the crap out of me!

Non existant French army sounds pretty accurate?!
(Or was that WW2? Never let facts get in the way of a joke.)

2 World Wars and One World Cup. Do Da Do Da.
Wait, that’s for Germany.
Erm…. French suck?
I couldn’t think of a better joke!
I was rushed, ok! :P

Yeah France didn’t do too badly in WW1. With major British help of course
In WW2 they just capitulated under blitzkrieg tactics, but their incapable, disunited leadership was just as important.
This decision is really strange as most of the Western front was located in France.
