The Xbox Avatars are supposed to be digital representations of players, and now Microsoft will be adding a wheelchair option in the future. It’s a good move by the company to expand the options in this way, making the community feel more inclusive as a whole. The news came about after tweets to Phil Spencer suggested making a petition to add wheelchairs for avatars, with Phil responding there was no need for a petition as work was already underway.
Soon after Microsoft’s Mike tweeted out a couple of images showing the wheelchair option.
What hasn’t been announced is when this option will be live, but it could be soon judging by the images above.

Nice to see this…rolled out.

This is a wheely good gesture from Microsoft.
The Lone Steven
You both sicken me. Shame on both of you. Shame.
bunimomike
We sicken you? Wow. Overreact much? :-/
The Lone Steven
Yeah. You both know what you did. Your level of bad puns should be punished by death or having to eat mouldy cheese. You’re both lucky that someone nicked my big oversized fish or i would slap you both with it. I mean, the gall of some folks. Even I refuse to do those types of pun. :P
bunimomike
Oh, so we don’t sicken you? That was one hell of a knee-jerk reaction.
Don’t ever leave people of varying abilities (or disabilities) out in the cold, fella. That includes humour. God knows one of my neighbours in uni had a cracking sense of humour and would tell me some stunning jokes. Even about himself. He’d come to terms with his own confines and would regularly make us smile about them. It helps every day along.
My humour might have been a little inappropriate but “sickening”? Keep that for the vile scum of this planet when they murder and butcher in the name of whatever they believe in.
The Lone Steven
No. It’s nothing to do with that. It’s how awful and cheap the puns are. I mean, they are COD levels of cheesiness and pray that we don’t have COD puns occur now.
Can’t even make jokes about pretending to be sickened about awful puns nowadays. I blame dem jelly babies for this!
bunimomike
Stick a smilie in there if you’re joking, fella. You daft bugger! :-)
freezebug2
Wouldn’t Cod and Cheese used in the same sentence merit a smelly? Use a smelly you daft bugger :P
The Lone Steven
Next person to make a bad pun, I will beat them with an oversized fish, forcefeed moldy cheese and force them to listen to erm… whatever is the most hated thing nowadays. Then force them to watch Chris Evans. :) i’m not kidding. I have done it before. Fun times. Although, i think it did get me banned for a few years from here as doing it to TSA staff is apparently, illegal, against the rules and immoral.
The Lone Steven
What a nice feature. :) Is it wrong that i kinda want a pole dancing option?
But it is nice to see MS include wheelchairs for avatars.
No doubt, some folks will view it as “PC madness” but it is not. Disabled folks want avatars as well.
Avenger
A 3D avatar of Steven pole dancing would cause us all too much trauma…
NicholasHeathfield
“PC madness”?. I hope not, but it just seems patronising and condescending to me. Your suggestion that disabled people aren’t presently allowed to have purposeless cartoon XBox avatars is somewhat inaccurate – is it unheard of for disabled people to aspire to the possibility that some day they might not need a wheelchair?
The Lone Steven
I’m just a grumpy bugger nowadays and fed up of the “PC gone mad” bridgage shitting on everything. I do believe some would like to have wheelchair avatars and this is a nice thing from MS. :)

They’ll have to add mobility hotrods and zimmer frames if they want true authenticity to the full audience which will include the said lowrider patrons.
Political Correctness can do one!
