In July 2016 the free to play shooter Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online was released on Steam, but it didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Instead its Steam rating took quite the hammering with mostly negative reviews. After all Ghost In The Shell is a beloved franchise and anything that couldn’t really live up to standards set for it would have a hard time.
In July this year the developer Neople released the Renewal update, taking on feedback from the playerbase to add improvements to the game. That happened a bit too late though as last week it was confirmed that the game’s servers would be shut off on December 6th.
In a statement on Steam the team wrote:
This was a very tough decision to make. The game has been in development for a long time, supported by developer, publisher, and community effort. Ultimately, we decided that continued development wasn’t going to help the game become what we all hoped it could become.
The in game store will be shut down soon and DLC has already been removed from sale.
