Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue seems to be coming to Xbox One this month

It seems that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is coming to Xbox One later this month on 18th February, as a new store page has popped up on the Microsoft Store and revealed a release date for the HD compilation.

After Kingdom Hearts III made its way to Microsoft’s console last year, Square Enix announced at XO19 that they would be bringing the rest of the saga to Xbox One as well. This would see Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix, and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue all be ported across.

Though there’s no word on Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix or Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix, the store listing for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue has popped up. It would be pretty odd for Square Enix to release these three entries one at a time in reverse order, but given how nonsensical the plot of the series is, we wouldn’t put it past them. The only alternative is that they wanted to drop all three at once, and Microsoft have spoilt one third of the surprise.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a compilation of spin offs to the main series, brought together into an oddly numbered entry that was first released for PlayStation 4 in 2017. You definitely got the sense that Square Enix were buying time to finish off the long in development Kingdom Hearts III.

Included are Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, originally released on 3DS, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage – from the PSP and Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, an hour long movie giving a fresh perspective on the series’ events.

Reviewing the PS4 release, Dom said, “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue may be saddled with a ridiculous title, but the package offers plenty to enjoy. It may not be the most welcoming of games, thanks to Kingdom Hearts being amongst the worst offenders for convoluted narratives, but the HD remaster of Dream Drop Distance combined with a glimpse of what is to come for the franchise makes this more or less essential for fans.”
